What’s in a name?  Intent.  We strive to bring excellence to the hobby, by raising the bar with respect to husbandry, breeding methods, genetic diversity and animal health.  Are we perfect?  Absolutely not!  But our thirst for learning, passion for the genus Thamnophis and our commitment to “giving more than we take” continue to drive us to be the best that we can be.

Family friendly, family first. Our youth are literally the future of our hobby.  We have a real opportunity to change people’s perspective on garter snakes and quite frankly, snakes in general.

Many people don’t “get it” and wonder why anyone would want to keep garter snakes when they are so common.  Introducing garter snakes to kids is something that we are committed to. 

Many species/subspecies of Garter snakes are perfect for kids: Their relatively small size, bold patterns and colors, varied diet, ease of handling (when raised properly), daytime activity, and natural curiosity usually result in a great experience.

Honestly, the most rewarding part of this journey for us are the photos, videos, messages, and fanart that we receive from kids.  We typically give away approximately 10-20% of what we produce, most of those going to kids.

WHY CHOOSE GDR?

“Bred for genetics and raised for behavior”.  

We focus on producing high quality animals from the best stock in the hobby.  We pride ourselves in having acquired some of the best of the best…the brightest, the most robust and healthiest examples.  We take specific steps to raise them to be rehomed to others as well.  This includes diet selection and various behavioral training techniques.  In short…we do everything in our power to produce healthy, vibrant, and handleable garter snakes.  Once they are in your hands, the care and support doesn’t stop there.  We’re always willing to answer questions and help, should you need any assistance.
