At Garter’s Dunn Right, our collection of garter snakes is forever growing and changing. Between our personal group of breeders and up-and-comers and what we have with our partnered associate breeders, we strive to provide a variety of healthy, genetically diverse garter snakes Dunn Right.

Below is a selection of some of our breeder snakes. Please let us know if you are interested in a specific species from us or have any questions!

Eastern Garter Snake Locales & Morphs

Albino Erythristic Flame Eastern Garter Snake

(Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis)

Brigit is a very high expression albino erythric flame Eastern (Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis).  She’s definitely one of the best of the best.  She’s produced 2 litters for us thus far.  Her babies are extremely popular.  Brigit is an eating machine and we have to be thoughtful about her diet, because she will very easily overeat.

Albino Erythristic Eastern Garter Snake

(Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis)

Felicity is a high expression albino erythristic Eastern (Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis).  Another very popular female in our collection with high demand for her babies.  She’s very docile to handle but when it comes to feeding time…she’ll keep you on your toes!

Canadian Flame Eastern Garter Snake

(Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis)

This Canadian Flame (Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis) girl is a very nice example of how garters can look, in parts of Canada,  Can you believe that people find these out in the wild?  WE will breed her for the first time in 2024

Missouri Locality Eastern Garter Snake

(Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis)

Esther is a beautiful Missouri locality Eastern (Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis).  This locality is known for that wide bright orange dorsal stripe. Esther is a key part of multiple projects, like the “Crush” project, where we are combining the MO Orange to other morphs to produce World’s Firsts, like Torch!

Florida Blue Eastern Garter Snake

(Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis)

Florida Blue eastern (Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis).  This girl is now big enough to breed and will be paired with a male Florida albino, this coming season.  She’s a mid-expression example…they can bluer than this.  Not to be confused with Florida Blue Striped (T.s.similis).  We have those too!

Melanistic Eastern Garter Snake

(Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis)

Maleficent is a pure melanistic Eastern (Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis).  She has produced four litters for us thus far.  The babies are always very healthy and high energy.  She’s a great mom.  She’s gravid in this picture, as you can see the significant scale spread.

Albino Erythristic Flame Eastern Garter Snake

(Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis)

Mango is a very high expression albino erythristic flame Eastern (Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis).  She had her first litter in 2023.  She’s a smaller than average adult, but makes up for it with a big personality.  She huffs and puffs when she doesn’t get her way, haha.

Erythristic Eastern Garter Snake

(Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis)

“Nosey” got her name from the fact that she’s ALWAYS watching what we are doing.  She was found in North Carolina and is used for outcrossing efforts. She’s had two litter with us so far and the litters have been quite large (average of 30+  babies).  She’s a nice example of a pure Erythristic Eastern (Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis).

Other Garter Snake Species & Morphs

Eastern Blackneck
Garter Snake

(Thamnophis cyrtopsis ocellatus)

We have multiple females and males and we often do collaborations with a couple of friends, each year.  This is not a “morph”, but simply a beautiful species of garter, as it’s found in nature.  Probably one of the prettiest natural garters, in our opinion.

“Blue Phase” Oregon Redspotted Garter Snakes

(Thamnophis sirtalis concinnus)

Two of our most well known garters in the collection: Connie and Connor.  We also have a third adult female named Ryver and a younger male and female that are up and coming.  What you see is what you get,  There are no camera tricks going on here.  These are best in class examples of “Blue phase” Oregon Redspotted garters (Thamnophis sirtalis concinnus).

Redsided Garter Snake

(Thamnophis sirtalis parietalis)

This is one of our breeder Redsided Garters (Thamnophis sirtalis parietalis).  Our females are 100% het for both albino and “anery”.  We have produced visual albinos, anery and snow babies from this group.  These are pretty rare in the hobby.

Plains Garter Snake

(Thamnophis Radix)

This girl is the product of a Quad het to Quad het pairing.  We suspect that she’s either a double visual Blue axanthic and B/W axanthic or maybe a triple, adding melanistic (AKA: “anery”).  We have learned however, that the blue striped melanistic and the typical gray striped are not compatible.  This is leading us to believe that the blue striped version are actually a dark version of Blue axanthics.  She has produced blue striped melanistic, B/W axanthics and normal hets, thus far.  We’re still working on confirming once and for all, what this combination is.

Plains Garter Snake

(Thamnophis Radix)

Kaya was born here in 2021 and will be bred for the first time in 2024.  She’s a visual axanthic and what appears to be perhaps hypomelanistic, or at the very least, a reduced pattern example.  No way to tell yet, whether this is reproducible.  We hope to find out.  She’s also poss het for melanistic, albino and blue axanthic.

“Granite” Checkered Garter Snake

(Thamnophis marcianus)

Cookie is a “Granite” Checkered Garter (Thamnophis marcianus).  She’s not het for anything else.  2022 was her first litter and those babies were the product of breeding Cookie to Vanta, an axanthic Checkered Garter.  Those babies are double hets and we hope to be able to have them up to size, to breed in 2024, to produce a World’s First:  Granite/Axanthic Checkered garter.
